Sector Rotation Strategy: Kaunsa Sector Kab Chalta Hai — Hinglish Deep Dive
Published by The Retail Trader · AUG 15, 2026 · Sector Analysis
Sector rotation ek market phenomenon hai jahan paise ek sector se doosre sector mein shift hote hain, depending on economic cycle ka phase. Matlab: jab economy grow karti hai toh kuch sectors outperform karte hain, jab economy slow hoti hai toh doosre sectors lead karte hain.
Ye samajhna important hai kyunki:
• Saare stocks ek saath upar nahi jaate
• Index upar ho sakta hai lekin aapka stock down ho sakta hai (wrong sector mein ho toh)
• Right sector mein hone se returns 2-3x ho sakte hain
• Wrong sector mein hone se index upar ho toh bhi aap loss mein ho sakte ho

1. Relative Strength (RS) Analysis:
• Compare sector index vs Nifty 50
• Sector outperforming Nifty for 2+ weeks = rotation likely
• Sector underperforming for 2+ weeks = money leaving
2. Volume Analysis:
• Sector stocks mein volume badh raha hai = interest coming in
• Sector stocks mein volume kam ho raha hai = interest fading
3. FII/DII Sector Flows:
• FII buying financials → bank stocks likely to rally
• FII selling IT → IT stocks likely to fall
• Track: NSE FII/DII sector-wise data (daily)
4. Earnings Momentum:
• Sector mein earnings beats zyada = rotation towards that sector
• Sector mein earnings misses = rotation away
5. News Flow:
• Government policy changes (PLI schemes, import duties)
• Global commodity moves (crude, metals)
• Regulatory changes (RBI, SEBI)
Setup 1: Finding Hot Sectors:
• Filter: Nifty Sector Indices
• Sort: 1-month return (descending)
• Check: 3-month return (confirm trend)
• Volume: Above 20-day average
Setup 2: Finding Stocks in Hot Sectors:
• Filter 1: Sector = [sector that's outperforming]
• Filter 2: RSI > 50 (momentum positive)
• Filter 3: Price > 50 DMA (uptrend)
• Filter 4: Volume > 20-day average (interest)
• Sort: 1-month return (descending)
Setup 3: Finding Contrarian Plays:
• Filter 1: Sector = [sector that's underperforming for 3+ months]
• Filter 2: RSI < 40 (oversold)
• Filter 3: Price near 200 DMA (long-term support)
• Filter 4: Fundamentals strong (P/E < industry average, ROE > 15%)
Strategy: "Follow the Money":
• Monday morning: Check sector performance last week
• Identify: Top 2 outperforming sectors
• Select: 2-3 stocks from each hot sector (use screener)
• Entry: Pullback to support or breakout from consolidation
• Stop-loss: Below support or 3% below entry
• Exit: When sector relative strength weakens, or target hit
• Re-evaluate weekly: Is sector still hot? If not, rotate
Strategy: "Contrarian Sector Bet":
• Identify sector that's been underperforming for 3+ months
• Check fundamentals — is sector fundamentally broken or just out of favor?
• If fundamentals okay but sentiment negative = contrarian opportunity
• Wait for first sign of rotation (volume pickup, RS improvement)
• Enter on confirmation — don't catch falling knife
• Patience: contrarian plays take 2-3 months to play out
Ye paanch baatein dhyaan mein rakho:
• Last year ke top sector mein buy karna — Consequence: Rotation already happened, you're late, Fix: Current relative strength check karo
• Sirf news pe sector pick karna — Consequence: News late aata hai, market pehle move karta hai, Fix: Price + volume pe depend karo
• Ek sector mein over-concentrate — Consequence: Sector reversal = big loss, Fix: Max 40% in one sector
• Sector rotation ignore karna — Consequence: Index upar, aapka stock neeche, Fix: Sector check before stock selection
• Defensive sector mein bull market mein stay — Consequence: Opportunity cost, underperformance, Fix: Cycle phase identify karo
Q: Sector rotation kitne din mein hota hai? A: Short-term rotation 2-4 weeks mein, medium-term 2-3 months mein, long-term 6-12 months mein. Day trading ke liye sector rotation irrelevant hai — ye swing/position traders ke liye hai.
Q: Kaunse sectors abhi (Aug 2026) strong hain? A: Current environment mein: Financials (strong Q1 results), Energy (crude high), FMCG (defensive money coming). IT mixed, Auto mixed, Pharma selective.
Q: Kya sector rotation Indian market mein global market se different hai? A: Haan, India ke sector dynamics alag hain. India mein FMCG aur Financials ka weight zyada hai. Global commodity moves directly Energy aur Metals pe impact karte hain. IT exports US economy pe depend karta hai.
Q: Small investor ke liye sector rotation practical hai? A: Haan, agar aap sectoral ETF ya index fund use karte ho. Individual stocks mein sector rotation track karna effort lagta hai. Nifty Bees + Bank Bees + IT Bees = simple sector rotation.
