Implied volatility kya hai, kaise calculate hoti hai, aur options trading mein kaise use karein — complete Hindi guide with India VIX explanation.
Implied Volatility batata hai ki market kitna movement expect kar raha hai kisi stock ya index mein. Ye ek percentage hai jo batata hai ki price kitna upar-neeche ho sakta hai.
High IV (>25%): Market expect kar raha hai BADA move. Options expensive hain. Low IV (<15%): Market expect kar raha hai CHHOTA move. Options cheap hain.
Important: IV direction NAHI batata — sirf magnitude batata hai. IV high hai = bada move hoga, upar ya neeche koi nahi jaanta.
IV vs Historical Volatility (HV):
• Kya batata hai — Implied Volatility (IV): Future expectation, Historical Volatility (HV): Past movement
• Based on — Implied Volatility (IV): Option prices, Historical Volatility (HV): Actual price data
• Use — Implied Volatility (IV): Option pricing, Historical Volatility (HV): Backtesting
• Direction — Implied Volatility (IV): Forward-looking, Historical Volatility (HV): Backward-looking
IV > HV: Options expensive hain (market zyada movement expect kar raha hai) IV < HV: Options cheap hain (market kam movement expect kar raha hai)
India VIX NSE ka official volatility index hai. Ye Nifty options ki implied volatility ko measure karta hai.
India VIX Levels:
• < 12 — Meaning: Very Low Volatility, Market Mood: Calm, complacent, Strategy: Sell options (cheap premium)
• 12-15 — Meaning: Normal Volatility, Market Mood: Stable, Strategy: Normal trading
• 15-20 — Meaning: Elevated Volatility, Market Mood: Cautious, Strategy: Reduce position size
• 20-25 — Meaning: High Volatility, Market Mood: Fearful, Strategy: Buy options (big moves expected)
• > 25 — Meaning: Extreme Volatility, Market Mood: Panic, Strategy: Buy options, expect reversal
India VIX Historical Patterns:
• COVID crash (Mar 2020) — VIX Spike: ~80, What Happened After: VIX crashed, market rallied
• Budget 2024 — VIX Spike: ~25, What Happened After: VIX normalized next day
• Election results 2024 — VIX Spike: ~30, What Happened After: VIX crashed after results
• Global banking crisis 2023 — VIX Spike: ~20, What Happened After: VIX normalized in weeks
Pattern: VIX mean reverts. Extreme high VIX → VIX will fall. Extreme low VIX → VIX will rise.
Option premium = Intrinsic Value + Time Value + Volatility Premium
High IV:
• Option premium BADHTA hai (expensive)
• ATM options pe sabse zyada impact
• OTM options pe bhi significant impact
Low IV:
• Option premium GHIRTA hai (cheap)
• Buyers ke liye opportunity
• Sellers ke liye kam premium
Nifty 20,000 CE, 14 days to expiry:
Ye chaar baatein dhyaan mein rakho:
• IV = 12% — Option Price: ₹80, Change: Base
• IV = 15% — Option Price: ₹95, Change: +₹15 (+19%)
• IV = 20% — Option Price: ₹120, Change: +₹40 (+50%)
• IV = 25% — Option Price: ₹150, Change: +₹70 (+88%)
Matlab: Sirf IV change hone se option price 2x tak ho sakta hai — bina Nifty move kiye!
Events se pehle (earnings, budget, election) IV badh jaata hai. Event ke baad IV suddenly girta hai. Isko IV Crush kehte hain.
Scenario: Company XYZ ka results aane wale hain.
Ye teen baatein dhyaan mein rakho:
• Results se pehle: IV 30% → Option price ₹200 (expensive)
• Results aa gaye: Stock 2% upar gaya
• Results ke baad: IV gir ke 15% → Option price ₹120
Stock upar gaya, lekin option price GIR GAYA! Kaise? IV crush ne option price se zyada paisa kha liya.
As a Buyer:
• ❌ Results se pehle option mat kharido (expensive premium)
• ✅ Results ke baad kharido jab IV gir jaaye
• ✅ Calendar spread use karo (sell near-term, buy far-term)
As a Seller:
• ✅ Results se pehle options sell karo (high premium)
• ✅ Results ke baad buy back karo (IV crush se profit)
• ✅ Iron condor, credit spreads banao
Concept: IV mean reverts. High IV se low IV jaayega, low IV se high IV jaayega.
Setup:
• India VIX > 20 → Sell options (Iron Condor, Credit Spread)
• India VIX < 12 → Buy options (Long Straddle, Long Strangle)
• VIX mean reversion pe profit karo
Best for: Experienced options traders
Setup:
• Results se 2-3 din pehle → ATM Straddle sell karo (high IV)
• Results ke baad → IV crush hoga → Straddle buy back karo
• Profit = Premium collected - Premium paid
Risk: Agar stock bahut zyada move kare (gap up/down) toh loss ho sakta hai.
Best for: Large-caps with predictable earnings reactions
IV Percentile batata hai ki current IV last 1 year mein kahan stand karta hai:
Ye chaar baatein dhyaan mein rakho:
• > 80% — Meaning: IV bahut high hai (historically), Strategy: Sell options
• 50-80% — Meaning: IV normal-high hai, Strategy: Neutral
• 20-50% — Meaning: IV normal-low hai, Strategy: Neutral
• < 20% — Meaning: IV bahut low hai (historically), Strategy: Buy options
Example: Nifty IV Percentile = 85% → IV historically bahut high hai → Sell options (Iron Condor)
IV Skew tab hota hai jab different strike prices ki IV alag ho:
Put Skew (Common):
• OTM puts ki IV > OTM calls ki IV
• Matlab: Market zyada downside fear kar raha hai
• Strategy: Sell OTM puts (expensive), buy ATM puts
Call Skew (Rare):
• OTM calls ki IV > OTM puts ki IV
• Matlab: Market zyada upside expect kar raha hai
• Strategy: Sell OTM calls (expensive), buy ATM calls
India VIX Chart:
• /charting pe jao
• Search "^INDIAVIX" ya "India VIX"
• Daily/weekly chart pe VIX levels dekho
• Support/resistance on VIX → market direction clues
TRT ke SUPERCHART pe options chain dekho:
• Stock select karo
• Options chain open karo
• Har strike pe IV dikhega
• IV comparison across strikes = skew
High IV = expensive premium. Results ke baad IV crush se option price girti hai even if stock moves in your direction.
IV direction nahi batata — sirf magnitude. High IV bada move expect karta hai, direction nahi.
IV ek factor hai option pricing mein. Delta, theta, gamma bhi matter karte hain. IV alone decisions mat lo.
Low IV = kam premium. Sellers ke liye kam reward. Low IV pe buying better hai (cheap options).
VIX 50+ hai toh "ab girega" sochke sell mat karo. VIX aur upar bhi ja sakta hai. Wait for VIX to actually start declining.
