Impact of manager change, and what to look for before redeeming immediately
Published by The Retail Trader · AUG 07, 2026 · Mutual Funds & AMC
The question arises whether you chose your fund because of the track record of the manager who leaves it. There is no direct answer to this, but there is a framework for thinking.
Some funds are very process driven — the team, framework and mandate are bigger than the manager. The impact of a change in vehicle is less.
On the other hand, some funds are run in the style of a high conviction manager. Vahan change actually means a new fund whose name is old.
It is enough to see these four things:
• What has been the new manager's track record and style?
• The turnover shows how much the portfolio has changed in the next few months.
• Is the mandate the same or has the character of the scheme changed?
• How much will be the exit load and tax on redemption?
Redeeming immediately is often costly and less necessary. Do looking at three quarterly portfolio disclosures is a cheap wait, and it gives you evidence rather than estimates.
