Meaning of rejection messages, and which one is your fault?
Published by The Retail Trader · AUG 07, 2026 · Order Flow
Order rejection is often not the fault of the system, it is the enforcement of a rule. The message often comes in technical language, hence the reason is not understood and the person logs in and places the same order again.
Most rejections are due to lack of funds or holdings – margin is not complete, or quantity is not available to sell.
After that comes the reason for closing the price: Your limit price is outside the allowed range for the day, so the exchange does not accept it.
These remaining reasons also appear to be regular:
• There is a ban period or surveillance restriction on our contract or stock.
• Your broker profile should not be activated for Segment.
• The market order has been sent outside market hours or in an illiquid contract.
• A single order larger than the freeze quantity has been placed.
Reading the full rejection message is the fastest debugging. And if it is coming because of margin, the correct answer is not to add funds, it is to ask that the trade was not too big for the size of your account.
