The real price of reliability, support and platform stability

The choice of broker is often made by looking at the cheapest brokerage. For most traders, brokerage is the smallest of the things that change their results.
Whether the platform holds up on a volatile day is the biggest factor. On the day the market moves the most, a slow system is the most expensive.
After that comes support — how long it takes to reach a human when there is a problem, and whether you get a written record.
Before choosing, check these:
• Which segments you need — equity, F&O, commodity, currency.
• How quickly fund transfers and withdrawals happen.
• The full list of charges — not just brokerage, but AMC, DP charges, call and trade, everything.
• The exchange's complaints data is public — it is worth a look once.
Keeping two brokers is practical for many active traders — if one goes down, the position can be closed through the other. That backup is for the one day when it will be needed most.
