What BTST is, what STBT is, BTST charges and risks — a complete guide for Indian traders.

What Is BTST?

BTST = Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow. Buy a stock today and sell it tomorrow — before it even arrives in your demat.

Simple definition: > BTST = a hybrid of intraday and delivery. Buy today, sell tomorrow. The shares do not arrive in your demat, but you can still sell them.

BTST vs Intraday vs Delivery

Keep these five points in mind:
• Buy — BTST: Today, Intraday: Today, Delivery: Today
• Sell — BTST: Next day, Intraday: Same day, Delivery: Anytime
• Demat — BTST: No credit, Intraday: No credit, Delivery: Credited
• Margin — BTST: Available, Intraday: Available, Delivery: Full payment
• Risk — BTST: Gap up/down, Intraday: Intraday only, Delivery: Long-term

BTST Charges

Keep these four points in mind:
• Brokerage — ₹20/order
• STT — 0.1% (delivery rate)
• GST — 18% on brokerage
• Stamp duty — State-wise

BTST Risks

Gap Down Risk

If the stock opens gap down tomorrow, you can take a loss. Overnight news is a risk.

Short Delivery

If the seller does not deliver the shares, an auction takes place. A short delivery can lead to a heavy loss.

No Stop Loss

You cannot place an overnight stop loss in BTST. You can do nothing about a gap up/down at the open.

BTST Strategy

When to Use BTST:
• ✅ Strong close (bullish candle at day end)
• ✅ Gap up expected (positive news)
• ✅ Bought at support
• ✅ Nifty bullish, stock bullish too

When to Avoid BTST:
• ❌ Results season (earnings risk)
• ❌ Global events (US Fed, RBI policy)
• ❌ Weak close (bearish candle)
• ❌ Low volume stocks
