1. Confirm From Official Sources:
• Check NSE/BSE circulars
• Verify dates in your broker app (Zerodha, Groww, Angel One)
• Read the company's RHP (Red Herring Prospectus)
• Don't use: Aggregator sites, WhatsApp forwards, "IPO gyan" Telegram channels
2. Read The Financials — Not Just The Buzz:
• Revenue growth: Consistent growth over the last 3 years?
• Profitability: Is it making a profit or a loss? A loss is acceptable if the path to profit is clear
• Debt levels: High debt = risk
• Use of IPO proceeds: Fresh issue (money goes to the company) vs OFS (existing investors exit) — fresh issue is better
3. GMP (Grey Market Premium) — It's A Trap:
• GMP is an unofficial, unregulated indicator
• A double-digit GMP can turn negative on listing day
• GMP = short-term sentiment, NOT fundamentals
• Rule: Look at GMP as one data point, don't make it the basis of your decision
4. Minimum Investment And Lot Size:
• Mainboard IPOs: ₹9,000-15,000 per application (approximately)
• SME IPOs: ₹1,00,000 minimum (SEBI mandated)
• Check the application amount in your broker
5. Investor Category And Quota:
• Retail quota: usually ~35% of net offer
• QIB (Qualified Institutional Buyers): ~50%
• NII (Non-Institutional Investors): ~15%
• Allotment in the retail category is lottery-based (if oversubscribed)
The sectors in August are diverse:
• Manufacturing (Technocraft, Ardee)
• Auto Components (Dhoot Transmission)
• Healthcare (Molbio)
• FMCG/Dairy (Milky Mist)
• Logistics Tech (Shiprocket)
• Quick Commerce (Zepto)
• Housing Finance (Truhome)
• Student Housing (Elevate Campuses)
• Exam Security (Innovatiview)
Strategy: Don't put everything into IPOs from a single sector. Diversify — spread your applications across 2-3 different sectors.
Keep these seven points in mind:
• Platform — Mainboard: NSE/BSE main, SME: BSE SME / NSE Emerge
• Compliance — Mainboard: Higher, SME: Lighter
• Min investment — Mainboard: ~₹14,000-15,000, SME: ₹1,00,000
• Allotment — Mainboard: Lottery-based, SME: Proportionate
• Liquidity — Mainboard: High, SME: Low
• Volatility — Mainboard: Moderate, SME: High
• Risk — Mainboard: Moderate, SME: High
TRT Recommendation: Mainboard IPOs are better for beginners — lower minimum investment, better liquidity, higher compliance standards.
Shiprocket (Logistics Tech):
• Bull case: D2C boom, 2.5L+ active sellers, 70M+ shipments/year, Zomato + Temasek backing
• Bear case: Tight margins, competition from Delhivery, acquisition integration risk
• TRT view: Interesting tech IPO but pricing is key — wait for the price band and subscription numbers
Dhoot Transmission (Auto Components):
• Bull case: Auto sector recovery, EV component capabilities, export growth
• Bear case: Auto cyclicality, raw material cost risk
• TRT view: Solid manufacturing play if the auto cycle is up
Molbio Diagnostics (Healthcare):
• Bull case: Diagnostic market growth, Tier-2/3 penetration, technology-led
• Bear case: Regulatory risk, competition from Dr Lal, Thyrocare
• TRT view: Healthcare defensive — good diversification
Milky Mist Dairy (FMCG):
• Bull case: Dairy market stable, brand recognition, rural-urban connect
• Bear case: Margins thin, competition from Amul, Mother Dairy
• TRT view: FMCG stable but low margin — long-term hold perspective
Zepto (Quick Commerce):
• Bull case: Market leader, dark store model, sub-10-min delivery, tier-2 expansion
• Bear case: Burn rate high, profitability questionable, Blinkit/Swiggy competition
• TRT view: High-risk high-reward — aggressive growth story, but the path to profitability is unclear
Keep these six points in mind:
• Deciding on GMP — Consequence: If GMP turns negative, you take a loss, Fix: Read the fundamentals
• Applying to every IPO — Consequence: Capital spread thin, fewer allotments, Fix: Apply selectively
• Thinking SME IPOs are "cheap" — Consequence: ₹1L minimum, low liquidity, Fix: Beginners should avoid SME
• Holding on listing day — Consequence: Profit evaporates, Fix: Sell 50% on listing, hold 50%
• Taking a loan to apply for an IPO — Consequence: Interest > listing gain, Fix: Use only spare capital
• Applying to an OFS-heavy IPO — Consequence: The money isn't going to the company, Fix: Prefer fresh issues
Q: How many IPOs can I apply to at once? A: As many as you like, but capital is limited. Select 3-4 good IPOs and spread your applications. Don't over-commit.
Q: When will Zepto list? A: Official dates have not been announced. The RHP has been filed but the price band and dates are pending. Track SEBI/exchange filings.
Q: What if I take a loss on an IPO? A: An IPO can list below the issue price. Keep a rule of selling 50% on listing. Hold the rest if the fundamentals are strong.
Q: Is applying for an IPO through UPI safe? A: Yes, a UPI-based IPO application (ASBA) is completely safe. The money is blocked, and if you are not allotted shares it is unblocked. No risk.
Q: Where can I read IPO reviews? A: Read the RHP (the company's website or SEBI). Look at broker research reports. Read educational content on TRT. Avoid tip channels.
