What is paper trading, how to do it, best paper trading platforms India — complete Hindi guide for beginners.

What is Paper Trading?

Paper trading means practicing trading without real money. Buying and selling stocks with virtual money — just for learning.

Simple definition: > Paper trading = practice mode of trading. Just like there is a tutorial in a video game, you can learn it without investing money in paper trading.

Why It's Called "Paper Trading"

In the old days, traders would write down their trades on paper — not make the actual trade, just keep a record of "what would have happened if this trade had been made." Hence the name "paper trading."

How to do Paper Trading?

Step 1: Choose Platform:
• NSE Paathshala — Type: Virtual trading, Price: Free, Best For: Indian stocks
• TradingView — Type: Paper trading, Price: Free, Best For: Charting + practice

• Moneybhai — Type: Virtual game, Price: Free, Best For: Beginners

• Virtual capital: ₹10,00,000 (or whatever will be the real capital)
• Keep the same amount which you will use in real trading
• Keep realistic — paper trading of ₹10 crore = meaningless

Step 3: Make Trading Plan

Make a plan first:
• Kaunsa strategy use karoge?
• How much risk per trade?
• How many trades per day/week?
• Kaunse stocks/indices?

Step 4: Execute the Trade:
• According to entry/exit plan
• Stop loss lagao (even in paper trading)
• maintain journal

Step 5: Review:
• Check Weekly P&L
• calculate win rate
• identify mistakes
• refine strategy

Importance of Paper Trading

Why Beginners MUST Paper Trade:
• No risk – don't lose money
• Learn mechanics — Order placement, stop loss, charts
• Test strategies — Which strategy works?
• Build confidence — Do not invest real money unless you are confident
• Identify mistakes — make mistakes without losing money

Real Stat

> 90% retail traders lose money. If you skip paper trading, you will have to learn with real money – that will be a very expensive lesson.

Paper Trading vs Real Trading

Keep these six points in mind:
• Money — Paper Trading: Virtual, Real Trading: Real
• Risk — Paper Trading: Zero, Real Trading: Real loss possible
• Emotions — Paper Trading: None, Real Trading: High (fear, greed)
• Execution — Paper Trading: Always fills, Real Trading: Slippage possible
• Psychology — Paper Trading: Easy, Real Trading: Difficult
• Learning — Paper Trading: Safe, Real Trading: Expensive

The Gap

Be profitable in paper trading? Are you interested in real trading also? Not necessary.

Why? Because in paper trading:
• There are no emotions (money is not falling)
• No slippage (order is always filled)
• There is no fear/greed

Solution: After paper trading, start with SMALL capital. From ₹10,000-50,000. Learn to handle emotions.

Paper Trading Rules

Rule 1: Treat Real Capital

"If it is virtual then I can do anything" — wrong. Treat it like real capital. Same position sizing, same risk management.

Rule 2: Use Same Strategy

Do not test a different strategy on every trade. Choose a strategy, use it consistently.

Rule 3: Minimum 3 Months Practice

Do 3 months paper trading before going live. Complete at least 50-100 trades.

Rule 4: Maintain Journal

Keep records of every trade:
• Entry reason
• Entry price
• Stop loss
• Target
• Actual exit
• Profit/Loss
• Lesson learned

Rule 5: Don't Stay Forever

Don't wait 6+ months in paper trading. 3 months practice → Small capital → Scale up.

Paper Trading Calendar

Keep these points in mind:

Common Paper Trading Mistakes

Do not keep realistic capital

Doing paper trading of ₹10 crore = meaningless. Keep as much capital as is real.

Ignore emotions

"If there is paper then there is no tension" - There will be tension in real trading. Simulate emotions.

Too Long Paper Trading

6 months+ paper trading = not coming out of comfort zone. 3 months practice → live.

No Journal

If you don't keep a journal, mistakes will repeat. Records of every trade are necessary.

Strategy Change Every Week

Stick to a strategy consistently. Every week new strategy = you will learn nothing.
