Understand swing trading in hindi — strategy, indicators, and entry/exit rules. 2-10 day trading complete guide for beginners.

What Is Swing Trading?

Swing trading is a positional trading style in which you hold stocks for 2-10 days (or sometimes 2-3 weeks). Goal: To make profit from price "swings" (ups and downs).

Swing trading vs others:

Keep these four points in mind:
• Intraday — Hold Time: Same day, Time Required: Full day monitoring, Best For: Full-time traders
• Swing — Hold Time: 2-10 days, Time Required: 30 min/day, Best For: Working professionals
• Positional — Hold Time: Weeks-Months, Time Required: 15 min/week, Best For: Investors
• Long-term — Hold Time: Years, Time Required: 5 min/month, Best For: Wealth building

Swing trading best for:
• Working professionals (can do with job)
• who cannot take intraday stress
• those who have patience
• Those who know technical analysis basics

On TRT: Daily + 4H chart is best for swing trading. EOD data is available in the free plan — enough for swing trading!

Swing Trading Setup

Chart Setup:
• Main chart: Daily (1D) — to identify trends
• Entry chart: 4-hour (4H) — for precise entry
• Indicators: 20 EMA, 50 EMA, 200 SMA, RSI (14), Volume

Trend Filter (First):
• Price above 200 SMA = Uptrend (only LONG trades)
• Price below 200 SMA = Downtrend (SHORT trades only)
• Price crossing 200 SMA repeatedly = Sideways (NO TRADE)

Golden rule: Do not trade against the trend. Only buy in uptrend, only sell in downtrend.

Swing Trading Strategy — Pullback Entry

Strategy: 20 EMA Pullback in Uptrend

Setup:
• Stock is above 200 SMA (uptrend confirmed)
• Stock made strong upmove
• Stock is pullingback towards 20 EMA or 50 EMA
• Volume is low during pullback (healthy sign)
• Bounce back by touching 20 EMA

Entry Rules:
• Price touches 20 EMA or goes slightly lower
• Bullish reversal candle banaye (hammer, bullish engulfing, morning star)
• Volume on reversal candle > previous 3 candles average
• RSI should be in 40-60 zone (not overbought)

Entry: Reversal next day after candle close, on opening or candle close

Stop Loss: Slightly below the low of the reversal candle (or 1 ATR below the 20 EMA).

Target:
• Target 1: Previous swing high (1:2 R/R minimum)
• Target 2: 1.5x previous swing high distance
• Trailing SL: Trail on Supertrend or 20 EMA

Example: swing trade on RELIANCE:
• RELIANCE daily chart:
• Above 200 SMA ✅ (uptrend)
• Made high of ₹2,900
• Pulled back to 20 EMA at ₹2,840
• Bullish hammer at ₹2,840 with volume
• Entry: ₹2,845 (next candle open)
• SL: ₹2,820 (hammer low - ₹5)
• Target 1: ₹2,890 (previous high) = ₹45 reward vs ₹25 risk = 1.8 R/R
• Target 2: ₹2,935 = ₹90 reward vs ₹25 risk = 3.6 R/R

Swing Trading Strategy — Breakout Entry

Strategy: Resistance Breakout with Volume

Setup:
• The stock has been rejected at a resistance level 2-3 times.
• Consolidation near resistance (tight range)
• Suddenly the stock breaks resistance
• Breakout candle: Large body, close above resistance, volume 2x+ average

Entry Rules:
• Breakout candle close above resistance
• Volume at least 2x of 20-day average
• RSI > 55 (momentum present)
• Market (Nifty) also bullish or neutral

Entry: Breakout at candle close or next day opening

Stop Loss: Slightly below the low or resistance level of the Breakout candle (ab support has been banned)

Target:
• Target 1: Consolidation range as much (measured move)
• Target 2: 2x consolidation range

Example: breakout on TCS:
• TCS daily chart:
• Resistance at ₹4,200 (tested 3 times in 2 months)
• Consolidation at ₹4,150-4,200 for 8 days
• Breakout candle: ₹4,220 close, volume 3x average
• Entry: ₹4,220
• SL: ₹4,180 (consolidation low)
• Target 1: ₹4,270 (₹50 range × 1)
• Target 2: ₹4,320 (₹50 range × 2)

Swing Trading Risk Management

Position Sizing:
• Risk per trade: 1-2% of capital
• ₹1,00,000 capital → max ₹2,000 risk per trade
• Calculate position size from SL distance:
• Entry: ₹500, SL: ₹480, Risk/share: ₹20
• Position: ₹2,000 / ₹20 = 100 shares
• Investment: 100 × ₹500 = ₹50,000

Max Open Positions:
• Beginners: 2-3 max open swing trades
• Intermediate: 4-5
• Each trade should be independent (different sectors)

Risk-Reward Ratio:
• MINIMUM 1:2
• Entry: ₹100, SL: ₹95 (₹5 risk) → Target minimum: ₹110 (₹10 reward)
• R/R less than 1:2 = skip trade
• Better: 1:3 or 1:4 R/R

Weekly Loss Limit:
• 2 consecutive losing trades → stop for the week
• Review what went wrong
• Come back Monday fresh

Swing Trading Routine (For Working Professionals)

Morning (15 min) — 8:45 AM:
• Check global markets (US close, Asian open)
• Check Nifty pre-market
• Scan watchlist for any overnight gaps
• Set/adjust alerts on TRT

Evening (20 min) — 7:00 PM:
• Update chart — daily candle close
• Check: any setup forming? (pullback to 20 EMA? breakout?)
• If setup: set entry order for next day
• If holding: check SL and target, update if trailing
• Update trading journal

Weekend (1 hour) — Saturday:
• Full chart review of watchlist (30+ stocks)
• Identify setups for coming week
• Read market news/events for next week
• Review past week's trades
• Update watchlist (add/remove stocks)

Total time: ~35 min/day, 1 hour/weekend = 4 hours/week. Manageable with job.

Swing Trading Mistakes

Mistake 1: Not having patience:
• It may take 3-5 days to setup the form
• trade without setup = gambling
• "Let's trade something" → capital loss

Mistake 2: Keeping SL too tight:
• SL will be hit in daily noise
• Keep SL at least 1.5 ATR distance
• 2-3% SL for swing trades (depending on stock volatility)

Mistake 3: Booking Profit Early:
• 1:2 R/R target set → let it hit
• "₹10 profit is made, let's book" → R/R becomes 1:1
• Use Trailing SL, make profits bigger

Mistake 4: Taking trade on News/Tips:
• "Reliance results acche aayenge" → speculation, not trading
• There should be setup on the chart. News = context, not trigger.

Mistake 5: Not doing Sector Diversification:
• 3 trades in IT sector = actually 1 trade (sector falls = all 3 falls)
• Different sectors: 1 IT, 1 Banking, 1 Auto = real diversification

Swing Trading Watchlist

How to make it?:
• Start with Nifty 50 stocks (high liquidity)
• Filter: Above 200 SMA (uptrend stocks)
• Filter: Volume > 10 lakh/day (liquidity)
• Filter: ATR > ₹5 (enough movement for profit)
• Monitor top 30-40 stocks daily

Using the TRT Screener:
• theretailtrader.org/stock-analysis-landing → Screener
• Filters: Price > 200 SMA, Volume > 10L, ATR > 5
• Result: Swing trading watchlist ready
• Pro feature: Export to CSV for tracking
