What BTST is, what STBT is, BTST charges and risks — a complete guide for Indian traders.
BTST = Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow. Buy a stock today and sell it tomorrow — before it even arrives in your demat.
Simple definition: > BTST = a hybrid of intraday and delivery. Buy today, sell tomorrow. The shares do not arrive in your demat, but you can still sell them.
Keep these five points in mind:
• Buy — BTST: Today, Intraday: Today, Delivery: Today
• Sell — BTST: Next day, Intraday: Same day, Delivery: Anytime
• Demat — BTST: No credit, Intraday: No credit, Delivery: Credited
• Margin — BTST: Available, Intraday: Available, Delivery: Full payment
• Risk — BTST: Gap up/down, Intraday: Intraday only, Delivery: Long-term
Keep these four points in mind:
• Brokerage — ₹20/order
• STT — 0.1% (delivery rate)
• GST — 18% on brokerage
• Stamp duty — State-wise
If the stock opens gap down tomorrow, you can take a loss. Overnight news is a risk.
If the seller does not deliver the shares, an auction takes place. A short delivery can lead to a heavy loss.
You cannot place an overnight stop loss in BTST. You can do nothing about a gap up/down at the open.
