How does position size change your decision?
Published by The Retail Trader · AUG 07, 2026 · Trading Psychology
In a hi setup par small position and big position – your behavior is not the same in both. Size doesn't just change the risk, it also changes your thinking.
In a big position, every small move makes a big difference. Under our pressure, logs are quickly removed when there is little profit, and left when there is loss.
That is, as the size increases, the behavior becomes exactly the opposite – small profits, big losses.
These questions check the size honestly:
• Can I sleep peacefully with main is position?
• Can main leave it without seeing the chart hoon.
• If this stop loss is placed will it change my position?
• Is the main size being kept big because it is making my face look tight?
"It feels like a sure thing" is the sentence after which position sizes increase the most, and it is also the sentence that precedes the biggest losses. Conviction is a feeling; position size should follow a formula.
