RSI vs MACD comparison Hindi – which is best, when to use it, when both together. Complete comparison with strategy examples.
Keep these seven points in mind:
• Type — RSI: Momentum oscillator, MACD: Trend + momentum
• Range — RSI: 0-100, MACD: Unlimited (above/below zero)
• Best for — RSI: Overbought/oversold, divergence, MACD: Trend direction, crossovers
• Default settings — RSI: 14 period, MACD: 12, 26, 9
• Signals — RSI: 30/70 levels, 50 line, divergence, MACD: Crossover, histogram, zero line
• Timeframe — RSI: All (daily best), MACD: All (daily/4H best)
• Weakness — RSI: Stays overbought in strong trends, MACD: Lagging, late signals
Answer: Both are best – in their respective use cases. Best results: Use with RSI + MACD.
RSI Best For:
• Overbought/oversold identification — RSI < 30 = oversold, > 70 = overbought
• Divergence — the most powerful RSI signal (price vs RSI opposite direction)
• Trend filter — RSI > 50 = bullish, < 50 = bearish
• Support/resistance confirmation — RSI at 40-50 in uptrend = pullback buy zone
RSI Weak At:
• RSI may remain at 80-90 in strong trend (overbought but still going up)
• Does not give crossover signals (like MACD)
• Trend direction not visible directly
RSI Best Signal: Divergence:
• Bullish divergence:
• Price: lower low
• RSI: higher low
• = Selling pressure weakening = reversal up possible
• Bearish divergence:
• Price: higher high
• RSI: lower high
• = Buying pressure weakening = reversal down possible
MACD Best For:
• Trend direction — MACD above zero = bullish, below = bearish
• Crossover signals — MACD line crosses Signal line = buy/sell
• Momentum strength — Histogram bars growing = momentum increasing
• Trend change early warning — Histogram shrinking = momentum fading
MACD Weak At:
• Lagging indicator — signals come after move started
• False crossovers (whipsaws) in the choppy market
• No overbought/oversold levels (unlike RSI)
• Not good for identifying reversals (divergence less reliable than RSI)
MACD Best Signal: Crossover + Histogram:
• Bullish:
• MACD line crosses above Signal line
• Histogram turns positive (bars above zero)
• Volume confirmation
• = Buy signal
• Bearish:
• MACD line crosses below Signal line
• Histogram turns negative
• = Sell signal
Why Use Both?:
• RSI = momentum + overbought/oversold
• MACD = trend + crossover
• Together = confirmation + higher accuracy
Combo Strategy 1: Perfect Buy Setup:
• Trend: Price above 200 EMA (uptrend)
• RSI: Pullback to 40-50 zone (not oversold, but momentum cooling)
• MACD: Histogram shrinking (momentum fading) then turning up
• Candle: Bullish reversal candle at support
• Entry: Candle close
• SL: Below support
• Target: 1:2 R/R
Combo Strategy 2: Divergence + Crossover:
• RSI: Bullish divergence (price lower low, RSI higher low)
• MACD: Bullish crossover happens (MACD crosses Signal line up)
• Confirmation: Both signals align = strong buy
• Entry: MACD crossover candle
• SL: Recent swing low
• Target: 1:3 R/R
Combo Strategy 3: Exit Signal:
• Holding a winning long position
• RSI: Reaches 70+ (overbought)
• MACD: Bearish crossover (MACD crosses Signal down)
• Histogram: Turning negative
• Exit: Both signals align = strong exit signal
RSI Settings:
• 14 (default) — Use: Swing trading, Characteristics: Balanced
• 9 — Use: Intraday, Characteristics: Faster, more signals, more whipsaws
• 21 — Use: Positional, Characteristics: Slower, more reliable
• 7 — Use: Scalping, Characteristics: Very fast, many false signals
MACD Settings:
• 12, 26, 9 (default) — Use: Swing trading, Characteristics: Standard, reliable
• 5, 35, 5 — Use: Intraday, Characteristics: Faster crossovers
• 24, 52, 18 — Use: Positional, Characteristics: Slower, more reliable
• 8, 21, 5 — Use: Intraday (balanced), Characteristics: Moderate speed
Best Combo Settings:
• Swing (daily): RSI 14 + MACD 12, 26, 9
• Intraday (5/15 min): RSI 9 + MACD 5, 35, 5
• Positional (weekly): RSI 21 + MACD 24, 52, 18
Mistake 1: "RSI is Better" or "MACD is Better":
• Neither is "better." Different tools, different purposes.
• RSI = momentum gauge. MACD = trend + crossover.
• Use both = best results.
Mistake 2: Using the same signal on both:
• RSI overbought ≠ MACD sell signal. Different indicators, different signals.
• Use RSI for levels, MACD for crossovers.
Mistake 3: Using only one indicator:
• RSI alone = 55% accuracy
• MACD alone = 55% accuracy
• RSI + MACD + price action = 70% accuracy
• More confirmation = better odds
Mistake 4: Same Settings on Every Timeframe:
• RSI 14 + MACD 12,26,9 = too slow on 1 min chart
• RSI 9 + MACD 5,35,5 = too fast on daily chart
• Adjust settings based on timeframe
RSI — because divergence + overbought/oversold are more versatile signals. But best: both together.
Hey! TRT free plan offers 3 indicators — RSI + MACD + one more (Bollinger/Supertrend).
RSI 9 + MACD 5,35,5 on 5-min chart. Fast settings best for intraday.

RSI divergence is more reliable. MACD divergence sometimes gives delays.
