INDEX LEVEL

An account of 19 sessions, best to worst:
• Bank Nifty — +23.88%, close 29609.05
• Midcap 100 — +15.52%, close 19715.10
• Nifty 500 — +11.87%, close 10719.05
• Sensex — +11.45%, close 44149.72
• Nifty 50 — +11.39%, close 12968.95

Of the Nifty's 19 sessions, 15 were up and 4 down. The best day was 2020-11-05 (+1.78%), the worst 2020-11-25 (-1.51%). There were 4.1 points between the Midcap 100 and the Nifty — the broad market was ahead of large caps.

SECTOR LEVEL

All eight of the eight sectors closed positive — a broad-based month:
• Metal — +24.84%
• Bank — +23.88%
• PSU Bank — +23.63%
• Realty — +14.46%
• FMCG — +7.78%
• Media — +5.93%
• Pharma — +5.30%
• IT — +4.05%

That spread is worth attention: the index recorded +11.39%, but Metal was at +24.84% and IT at +4.05%. Within one and the same month, this was an entirely different month for two portfolios.

VOLATILITY AND DRAWDOWN

India VIX ranged between 19.12 and 25.21 during the month and closed at 19.82. The deepest peak-to-trough fall in the Nifty inside the month was -1.5% — so despite the month's net number of +11.39%, a decline of that depth was seen along the way.
