Compress a PDF to 100 KB

The tightest ceiling in common use — government and examination portals ask for it constantly, usually for a single scanned page. This page opens the target-size compressor with the ceiling already set to 100 KB, so the only thing left to do is drop the file in. The tool works down a ladder of resolutions and JPEG qualities rather than guessing once, and stops at the best quality that still fits. A one-page scan, an ID or a photograph will get there and stay readable. A ten-page document at 100 KB will not: that is about 10 KB a page, and there is no compressor that makes ten legible pages out of it.

How to compress a PDF to 100 KB

This runs in your browser. The file is not uploaded, there is no account to create, and nothing is added to the document you download.

Questions about Compress PDF to 100 KB

Can a scanned document really fit in 100 KB?

A single page, yes — a scanned certificate, mark sheet or ID comes out readable at 100 KB, usually in greyscale. Several pages, no. Colour is dropped before resolution, because a colour scan spends most of its budget on noise rather than on the words.

What if my PDF will not go under 100 KB?

Then you are told so rather than handed a file that misses the mark quietly. The smallest readable version is offered instead, with its actual size, and you are never given something larger than what you put in. At this ceiling the way through is almost always fewer pages — split the document and compress the part that actually has to be uploaded.

Can I still select the text afterwards?

Yes. Nothing is re-rendered: the words, the fonts and the vector artwork are carried across untouched and only the images inside the file are re-encoded, so Ctrl-F and copy-paste keep working on the compressed copy. That is also why a PDF which is already only text may not reach the ceiling — there is nothing heavy in it to give up.

My PDF is already under 100 KB — what happens?

It is handed straight back, untouched. The ceiling is the whole requirement and it is already met, so re-rendering it would only make a smaller file worse — and in some cases larger.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is opened, changed and written by this browser tab — it is never sent to a server, so there is no queue to wait in and nothing to delete afterwards. Once the page has loaded you can turn the network off and the tool still works.
